CORONAVIRUS
UPDATE: VIRUS SPREAD TO 16 COUNTRIES
Coronavirus has killed
over 100 people until now, and with each passing day the threat is just getting
bigger.
It started in China’s Wuhan
and it has now reached more than 16 countries, and this figure is changing
fast. According to the recent reports, the total number of confirmed cases in
China were 4,535-Tuesday whereas on Monday it was 2,835. This is an increase of
over 1700 cases in 24hours. This is an increase of 62% and china is trying to
control this as soon as possible.
These are visuals of
under-construction hospital in Wuhan China. The country wants to build a
1000-bed hospital in the shortest time possible.
Other then China, Thailand
has more than 14 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.
India’s neighbors Nepal
and Shri Lanka have also confirmed the case of Coronavirus in the Country. The
threat in India gets bigger because of this. There’s is no confirmed case yet
in India, but 100s of peoples have been kept in isolation. Either they have
returned from China or they have been in close contact with patients. Tuesday
morning, three people walked into Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, they had
symptoms of this virus. All of them have just returned from China.
But what about peoples
who are stuck in China? What happening with them?
We all know that China
is rushing to control the spread of this virus. China has shut down many cities
including WUHAN where this outbreak started. Around 60 million people are stranded
in China because of travel restrictions. Flights have been canceled, buses and
train are not playing to stop people not to travel. But what about India
citizens who are stuck in China because a lot of Indian students’ study in
Wuhan. And how are other countries dealing with it?
As per the reports,
the US government has already started evacuating its citizens and diplomats
from Wuhan. Japan and South Korea have also sent their planes for evacuation
even Sri Lanka is also trying to do the same. But what about India? According
to some estimates, around 45 Indian medical students are stuck in medical
university in Wuhan. They have requested Indian embassy for immediate
evacuation but they haven’t been brought here. Air India said that plans to
evacuate Indian students are on hold. Many other countries like Philippines and
Sri Lanka have even suspended Visa on arrival for the Chinese citizens. This is
specifically a dangerous time in China, because tis is the time when the
country is celebrating lunar New Year or Spring Festival, this is the time when
millions of people travel to see their families and celebrate it. But many
celebrations have been cancelled due to this virus and the country is facing a
loss of billions of dollars. This reminds every one of the scary Year of
2002-2003 when severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, which killed over
700 people in China and other countries. That virus was also similar to
Coronavirus. That virus also started from China and then spread everywhere else
in all over the world. For now, there’s no vaccine available for this virus but
yes there are some precaution measures that you can take. These measures
include,
- · Washing your hand regularly and thoroughly.
- · Staying away from the people with respiratory illnesses.
- · And the most important one is wearing a surgical mask.
Scientists are working
on the virus but it is might take up to a year after the clinical trials. Till
then the best solution is to control this spread.
